Legacy Scholarship at Humber College

Jean Augustine Legacy Scholarship at Humber College (Community Involvement)

Hon. Jean Augustine was appointed as the first Fairness Commissioner for Ontario in March 2007. Ms. Augustine was the first African-Canadian woman to be elected to the House of Commons. She was elected in the riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore in 1993 and sat in Parliament until 2006. During this time, she served as parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, minister of state for multiculturalism and the status of women and was a deputy Speaker.

Friends of Jean Augustine have established a scholarship at Humber College as a tribute to her achievements. The Jean Augustine Legacy Scholarship is presented to a student from the Etobicoke-Lakeshore area, who has overcome obstacles and is actively involved in the community, and who is entering a Humber postsecondary program for the first time.
